Easy to use, very accurate at high speeds

The lightweight plastic body feels cheap at first, but overall it's a solid device. Only 2 buttons to control the counter that shows the revolutions of each rotating object. Reflective tape is included, 10mm (1/2 inch) tape is recommended for best results. I did some testing to see if it matters how close to the band you need to be and it doesn't seem to matter much. The last speed is displayed when you stop measuring and also monitors high and low speeds. These numbers are reset each time you turn off the device. I tested slow, medium and high speed. I don't have a motor that can reach the advertised top speed of 99999 RPM, but I've tried a high speed rotary tool and a good quality 20V drill and the readings at each speed came very close to the maximum speeds advertised on the tools Attitude. . I've noticed that the readings are less accurate at slower speeds (below 100 RPM), but are still within a few percent. For a cheap meter I'm very happy with the accuracy and it's definitely close enough for random measurements or comparisons between different types or versions of the same instrument for quality control purposes. You can add multiple pieces of tape. For example, if you are measuring something large, like the edge of a slowly spinning car tire, you can stick 9 pieces of tape on it and then divide the reading by 9 to get the RPM. The display is not backlit, but has a large LCD display. segmented display that shows tenths of revs at lower revs. There is a battery level indicator and the meter uses 3 AAA batteries which are not included. The counter comes with a somewhat cheap but acceptable soft case and 3 strips of reflective tape. I could also use foil tape and as long as the label is a reflective surface on top of a non-reflective surface it should work. You can't measure a shiny motor shaft unless you put black tape on it first, and then a piece of reflective tape. The meter will turn itself off, so even if something accidentally turns on the power, it won't run out of power. batteries. This is a great tool if you want to know the actual speed of a power tool. It works very well at higher speeds as long as it can see reflective tape well. A simple but effective tachometer that I'm happy with for home use.
