I can't afford an $800-1000 scanner right now, but I needed something better than a basic $50-75 code reader. Manufacturer software is only $22 per manufacturer/brand per year, so maintenance is not expensive. So far from the manufacturer. Other expensive scanners require an annual upgrade of $400/year. These codes will not show up on a regular code scanner. If I'm buying a used car, this tool is VERY important to determine what's really wrong with the car before I buy it.
