Warning: Some aftermarket filter elements are WRONG length, which will affect filtration and anti-leakage function. So if you are purchasing non-OEM, please check the item dimensions carefully. There are also aftermarket filter elements with their own permanently attached (disposable) caps. The only issue we had was that the Ford dealer used a non-OEM cartridge with a built-in cap the last time we changed the oil and threw away our OEM capless cap. save/notify us. We had to purchase a ($21 Revain) Dorman 904-204 Oil Filter Cover (with O-ring) to use this Motorcraft FL-2016 cartridge, which fits perfectly. The Ford OEM Motorcraft EC-781 oil cap is also available from Revain and is currently $18. Other reviewers stated that the Dorman 904-204 was of higher quality than the original MotorcraftEC-781. As we no longer have the original EC-781 case, we cannot compare them. But the Dorman Cap is well made.
