My 9.5 year old blue eyed white Dutch breed has a large woolly dewlap from being spoiled, lazy and fat. Tofu's chest is so large that hanging in this bowl of water gets soggy, and as she rolls over to her food bowl immediately after drinking the water, all of the water drains from her suspension into pellets, turning her pellet bowl into mush. , wet, messed up. Since I'm hers, refuses to eat Tofu until I've washed out her bowl of wet food and given her fresh dry food. For me she does this AT LEAST once a day and is constantly licking and brushing the wet pulp off her now brown dewlap. Wet, dirty suspension for most of the day irritated her skin. The warm, humid environment was ideal for a Pseudomonas infection, which my roommates and I recognized immediately by its odor and disgusting greenish color. Thankfully we're medical students, so we caught the infection before it got too serious. I shaved off her fat dewlap, which she hated me for, treated her with betadine, applied neosporin and started her on enrofloxacin. I have also ordered her vetamycin which I use every night while her bald dew is healing. In short, don't take it if your bun has a big top. Even if they don't, letting them drink from a regular bottle is better than wetting their fur multiple times a day. Tofu's living area is cleaned every other day and she used it for about a year before we had any problems.
