For most applications I'm more comfortable with thread repair time inserts than helical thread repair systems. First, they are easier to install for beginners. I use them all the time in aluminum and cast iron. The inserts are available in different lengths and materials (e.g. steel and stainless steel). They also hold up pretty well thanks to their unique lockout design.
