The only way out is tools and equipment

I have used coils in the past and hate that they come loose with the screws and/or the difficulty of fitting them properly. When you install these inserts the end result, especially in aluminum, is even better than the original, they are expensive but we all know you get what you pay for.

Pros
  • Automotive
Cons
  • Almost never

Timeserts are great for thread repair

For most applications, I like thread repair systems much better than spiral thread repair systems. First, they are easier to install for beginners. I use them all the time in aluminum and cast iron. The inserts are available in different lengths and materials (e.g. steel and stainless steel). They also hold up pretty well thanks to their unique lockout design.

Pros
  • Thread Repair Kits
Cons
  • Good Mostly, But...

Timestamps are great for thread repair

For most applications I'm more comfortable with thread repair time inserts than helical thread repair systems. First, they are easier to install for beginners. I use them all the time in aluminum and cast iron. The inserts are available in different lengths and materials (e.g. steel and stainless steel). They also hold up pretty well thanks to their unique lockout design.

Pros
  • Metric Inserts and Kits
Cons
  • Slightly torn
