Review on πŸ”§ Tronex Chainmaille Pliers - Stubby Flat Nose with Long Ergonomic Handles (Product Code P747) by Edwin Kreps

Great pliers, but the springs wear out too quickly; not suitable for bending steel

I want to love these pliers; They go very well with most of my clothing and jewelry and are comfortable for my arthritic hands. I bought two pairs from TRL. However, after less than eight months of occasional use, the spring on one pair began to fail, eventually making the pliers difficult and frustrating to close. Then when I tried to reattach it (mostly unsuccessfully), it eventually broke. This $50 tool less than a year old lives in my junk pliers box now. I'd also like to point out that these pliers don't do well with 18 gauge titanium; After just one Byzantine bracelet, I could tell that the titanium wire was starting to mess up the lugs, so I stopped using them on anything stronger than 16-gauge aluminum. Addendum: The problem with the wear of the springs is constant; I've now seen three pliers work exactly the same, although I no longer use them to bend steel or titanium. Now they cost up to sixty dollars for a pair and, at best, last for 6,000 or 8,000 rings. Sounds like a lot, but you'd be surprised at how few finished pieces you make when you're making more than just earrings.
