I did not buy this for use in the Kurdi system. I actually use HardiBacker which is covered by Hydroban. It seems logical to me that the most likely place for water to get past your system would be running down the wall surface and then over the pads covering the hot and cold plumbing inlets. Often the opening around these two holes is too large for a good seal. So the water will most likely flow through these pipe passages and then end up in your wall. The rubber grommet on this product fits my 3/4 inch pipes perfectly and now I can drill the right size holes in cement board and tile without fear of a leak. The only thing I want is that they cost $5. per unit, not twice as much. This is a great solution to a problem some of us don't think about: this glossy pad doesn't even come close to offering water protection.
