Review on Fel-Pro MS98000T Intake Manifold Gasket Set by Chris Hart

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Really good so far.

My 200,000+ mile 97 Tahoe 5.7 Vortec happened to leave puddles of coolant when I parked it, so I checked with my mechanic. They said it was most likely the intake manifold. (Like one of the other reviewers, I had also replaced the original intake manifold gaskets about five years ago.) My oil cooler lines were also leaking and the driveway was a mess. My shop charged $933 to replace the upper and lower manifold gaskets and oil cooler lines. Although I'm not a master mechanic (more like an unskilled apprentice), I decided to save up about $750 and try to do the job myself. A bit intimidating with my experience. Bought these pads and they seem to be very well made. (Note: the box CONTAINED TWO, count them, TWO valve cover gaskets.) I used the YouTube videos for reference (1A Auto Parts has a very good collection of videos on how to fix your old GM Vortex truck ), and I actually managed to do a good job. The pads clicked right into place. The truck is running great now, there is no more coolant or oil on my driveway. I would advise anyone who doesn't have a lot of experience with mechanics (like me) to watch a few YouTube videos first before attempting this. You'll get a very good idea of what's involved, what problems to expect, and what tools you'll need. I'm glad I decided to bite the bullet and do it myself. You can do it too!

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • I don't really like it, it's ok
