When I first put the button in the ignition and tried to start the car, nothing happened. I then read the instrument cluster and asked for the button to be removed. After removing the button, the cluster said to insert the key, which I did, then said to remove the key. Then I put the button back in, slammed on the brake, pushed the button and the car started! I think it was necessary to learn the button. Dealer programming isn't required, but calling the dealer will quickly throw you a programming fee of $160 plus $93 per key.
