I bought this lens primarily for astrophotography, I shoot with a cropped camera (Nikon D5200) and wanted to capture more of the Milky Way in one image than the standard 18mm widest angle lens. I bought this lens and am very happy with it so far. I haven't ventured into a dark place yet to try and get a good picture of the Milky Way and when I do I'll update this review. Since July 2014 I have only been doing photography and astrophotography with a DSLR. so I'm not a pro. And this review is written more for people like me who are not quite sure if they want to take this lens. Also a tip for other inexperienced photographers: You have to manually set the aperture ring to F22. And then your camera controls the aperture, if you set it to auto it does it automatically, if you set your camera to aperture priority mode you can set it to the aperture you want. You can then set it to manual and set your desired exposure time (30 seconds for a good shot of the Milky Way). The quality of the images captured by the lens was excellent and I am very satisfied. I am very excited and can't wait to get my first shot of the Milky Way as not only will I be taking a wider shot but I will also be capturing more light as it drops to 2.8 compared to the 3.5f of my standard lens f falls off. .I've included two separate shots (one from the space shuttle flight, the other from the landing of Venus and Mercury over Irvine, California) for comparison, 18mm and 10mm, in case you're still not sure how much more You need. g capture and whether it's worth it. Answer: Yes, it's worth it. Edit: Weird, I updated this in April after going to Death Valley in March, but I think it never loaded properly, so here it is again. The lens is wonderful and ideal for astrophotography. I added another comparison shot of 18mm and 10mm.
