Fairly easy to install but still difficult. You use large plastic wing nuts to attach the bracket to your crossbars. A lever unlocking system would be better as there is no security/key lock so thieves can't just unscrew the 4 wing nuts and run away with your expensive J-Bars. Even with the J-bars lying flat, my Tall Tahoe still has trouble going through the garage. Can only hold one side at a time. If I'm towing 2 kayaks I have to pull it out of the garage and assemble it. Again, a lever cam mount would be better. There have been several reports in the past of the rubber band being "wrongly" installed. They are not "wrong" installed. They are installed to avoid metal-to-metal contact in the bars. Some have (16) removed the lock nuts and repositioned the band. The brackets are tight so it's not as easy as you think. The easiest way to protect your rack from brace scratches is to purchase a set of 4 adhesive backed rubber or neoprene 4x4 pads. Installation takes less than 5 minutes.
