Repair with Platinum Nylon tape stained with Copic markers

I have one Rumpl duvet at Christmas. After a few days I noticed a very small piece, probably from a office knife. It was so small only one feather came out at a time and as I try to be very careful when I spend it it seemed petty and wasteful to trade one blanket for a new one. However, it was a gift and it's a very pretty rainbow quilt, so I wanted to make sure the renovation was as discreet as possible. The cut was on a softer/lighter orange section so I ordered both orange and platinum nylon grip ('platinum' I thought probably means 'white') since I've heard that a few times transparent tape is a different material and not as good. Orange didn't fit at all, it's a strong, safe orange color. However, I have a lot of Copic markers. They are permanent art markers. (Prismacolor markers are basically the same.) I used to use them a lot to mask repairs. So I used a light orange to color the platinum band, which appears to be a little different in texture to the orange band (the platinum is thinner, smoother) and is actually quite translucent and a bit off-white. Here you can see the result. I'm pretty satisfied. It's not completely invisible, and it's a bit stiffer than the surrounding material, but it seems like it's pretty easy to miss. I also think you can use it on medium/light colors without coloring them at all and it will blend well due to the transparency. In any case, I would like to know who to contact to tell them to be less careless with the box cutter. But I'm glad a product like Tenacious Tape exists and I'll keep both rolls sealed in the bag as required for the future! And I'll update in a while to let you know how it's holding up. EDIT: I also found the spot where the stuff sack was cut and used platinum to repair it from the inside. It was cut in the middle blue part. I haven't colored it and it still blends in well because of the transparency, but I find it goes better with orange, it has a warm undertone.

Pros
  • Use nylon cloth (black, red and colored), ripstop cloth (green and gray) and clear vinyl for a nearly invisible repair
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
