Review on Hakko 599B 02 Wire Type Soldering Cleaner by Darrell Shreves

This is my first time using one of these copper tip cleaners. I used to get by with a standard damp sponge. No longer. This tip cleaner is just amazing. Just poke the tip in and out a few times and it looks almost as clean as if it were brand new. I've never seen a wet sponge clean the tip the way this ground brass material cleans the tip. But the secret is that, unlike a sponge, the tip is not rubbed with brass shavings. All you have to do is insert the tip into the chips and remove them and they will work their magic. Also note that the holder is very light so it's highly recommended to find something to put on the ground to make it a bit heavier, otherwise it will tend to move around when trying to die tip to clean, reducing the cleaning efficiency. I had some old nuts and bolts that I put in the bottom shelf and they added enough weight to make the holder stable. Large pucks or fishing weights would also serve a similar function. If you're into soldering at all, it's worth investing in one of these cleaners. After just one use, you'll never go back to a wet sponge.
