This is an assumed rating based on previous experience. I've had one of these for six years with no problems and finally got a replacement. I like the brush, the scraper, the good scraper and the extension. This is one of the longest extensions. I can reach the roof on one side and knock off a few inches of snow. As mentioned, the handle that tightens the extension isn't that strong. I tried not to overtighten it and mine finally stopped sanding last winter (but I think 6 years is a good time for a product like this). I left the old one and taped it over to knock the sheets off the awnings etc. I buy a new one for the car. I'll let you know if the extension is as durable as my first one.
