I bought these chisels a little over a year ago. I didn't want to buy an expensive set without practicing first.I didn't use them much, they were sharpish out of the package. They had tool marks on all the faces and weren't "polished." Well, this week I got a new diamond stone sharpener and strop. I started flattening the backs of the chisels. It took a long time. They are concave along the backs. So both the tips and up near the handle had to be nibbled down. It took a "long time." Probably an hour for the set. After that, I ground down the angled faces and set the cutting angle (the angled face is concave also). After all of this on the 400 grit surface, I went to 1000 grit, rouge strop, and finally bare leather. Wow. It makes all the difference in the world. It was shaving hair, but also skin in a weird way. It could take the layer of dead skin off my hand. Needless to say, it was cutting minute slivers of wood without problem. Are they good out of the box? Yeah, not bad. Can they be made better? Absolutely.
