Review on ๐Ÿ› Ultra Plush Non-Slip Rug Pad for Hard Surfaces and Carpet - 2ft x 12ft by Melissa Tucker

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Large rugs, YES. Small rugs, NO.

I bought this to hold four rugs in my house: one in the hall, one in the kitchen and two in the bathroom. The carpet in the hallway is large, round, approximately 4 feet in diameter, and rests on top of the carpet. The one in the kitchen is suitable for normal-sized carpets and tiles. And the last two are in the bathroom and are normal bedroom size rugs in front of the sinks, on the rug (yes I know, the bathroom rug). A large mat at the entrance and two in the bathroom have a rubber side. right side up and twill side down so it catches on the rug. The entrance carpet doesn't have many people and it's big so it hardly moves. In the past when the rug was alone, cats and a small number of people pushed the rug so I would call the rug a win for that use. For two people in the bathroom, they get a lot of traffic, not just those walking on it. The motion is more like people walking to a sink and getting stuck/shuffling to stop at the sink. Usually, these rugs don't hold their place and end up half-crumpled under the sink. However, prior to installing the mats, the mats were completely wedged under the sink. Now they are only half crumpled. Half win. Maybe it would be better if I sewed the pads to the carpet. The carpet in the kitchen is in the same situation as the carpets in the bathroom. This particular rug is placed in front of the fridge so it also has the same jam/shuffle stop for people accessing the fridge. This pad is rubber side down and felt side up. This carpet is probably the worst performer and is not an improvement. This is partly because it's in the highest traffic area of the entire house, but also because it gets that slam stop (which slips until enough pressure is applied to the mat to break both the floor and the carpet to grab). Because the mat is a little thicker, it also sits a little higher, making it easier to just walk past. In summary, I think this is a good product under the right circumstances. The right circumstances are when the mat can be placed under a rug large enough to allow more than one step on it. This allows the rug to "get stuck" between the felt and wool side and the floor, and when you take another step across the rug, the other foot essentially "pins" the rug through the aforementioned friction. Everything else has a floating effect until enough pressure is applied to the carpet. So if you have a large area rug, hallway runner or similar then this could be a very good choice for you; If you have something smaller like a doormat sized rug I might consider something else to keep your rugs in place.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
