I bought it for a purpose. Now that I'm working from home I've wanted to hang remote controlled lights in front of my bedroom doors (I have 2, weird I know). So if I'm busy with work and don't want to be disturbed, I would use the remote to turn on both lights so my roommates know not to be knocked when the light is on. The remote control signal is so weak that it cannot even penetrate a thin wooden door less than 2 feet away. So yes, they do exactly what they advertise and very well, I might add. I only took 1 star because nowhere on this page (neither in the product details nor in the questions section) was it said that the remote control signal doesn't come through anywhere remotely solid.
