In my opinion, the optimal distance from the wall is one in which one can easily reach the connectors without being overly startling. The mechanism for adjusting the degree of inclination is smooth and there are no loose ends to worry about. I believe that the bushings ended up being too big for the Samsung TV; in order to complete it, I had to use a file (although this was not an extremely important step).
