In the last 5 years I have purchased and installed 2 Western Digital drives and 3 Maxtor drives. In my personal experience, both brands are good. Pricing is very consistent for both drives and they all come with a 3 year warranty. In the future, however, I would prefer Maxtor. Maxtor drives have very good functionality and are very user-friendly, they are easy to install and come with software to help you partition and format them even if you are using them for the first time. The Ultra ATA/133 interface with 8 MB cache makes the drive up to 20% faster than conventional drives (2 MB cache). I have been using Maxtor for many years and have never had a failure. Great ride!
