Review on πŸ”ͺ Niji Yasutomo Wood and Linoleum Cutting Set - Set of 12 with 4-1/2 in Wood Handles by Nicole Mcleod

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent price despite some limitations

The description accurately describes what you get, which is rare in cheaper sets. I bought this kit specifically for block printing and it's almost perfect for my purpose so it deserves 5 stars. I don't find the straight and angled chisels particularly useful, but this set has 4 chisels and 2 splitting tools. All cutting tools cut well out of the box, although honing improves the cut. I don't care if the pens look cheap. In any case, I plan to shorten them so that they fit better in my hand. I'm enough of a woodcarver to say that this set works well for detail work on softer woods. You need to add a good knife (and some big nicks) for roughing. Traditionally cherry wood was used for Japanese woodblock prints and I have not yet tried the tools on this hardwood. These tools are not designed for rough work and will break if you try to dig into pieces of wood with them. You can easily pay more than the cost of this entire set for a Flexcut or Dockyard micro tool. High-end tools may be more durable in the long run, but for everyday use or those looking to try new technology, this set is very hard to beat.
