This is less of a rating and more of advice. If you ordered this DVD drive, connected it to your laptop and it was recognized but not the inserted DVD but did play the CD, please wait before returning it. Go to Control Panel and select "My Computer". If it shows your DVD drive and DVD name, that means it is compatible with your computer and WORKS. That's the problem. If you have a laptop without an internal DVD drive, 9 times out of 10 it is not configured to play DVD media. Just music CDs and maybe a few games. That's why it plays CDs and not DVDs. Now none of the media that was on the installation disk worked for me either. I went online and downloaded vlc dvd media player and wah la (or how you spell it) it worked. Some people say that vlc is not suitable for them. Maybe you haven't fully downloaded yet. Make sure you land on the thank you page. If that doesn't work, you can try downloading other DVD media. You do NOT have to pay for the software. If that doesn't help, download HP Disk Detector and see if it updates and gets it working. It worked for a guy I worked with but not for me. Just in case none of this works, return it. As for the rating, let me use it for a while and I'll be back. Hope this helps someone. By the way, if your computer doesn't recognize this disc, it might not be compatible.
