I used to use a pick to split the chain and the hardest part was keeping the chain steady without crushing my fingers with a hammer. Not wanting to repeat losing my thumbnail, I decided to look for a chain sharing tool. A long time ago I bought a chain tool at a local bike shop that required a wrench to turn a masonry bit. It was a piece of junk and I ended up going back to my drift. I've seen this tool and it looked reliable enough to work, plus it had mostly good reviews and was cheap enough to throw away if it was junk. Well I used it to split a stiff and rusty chain and it worked fine. Lubricating the linkage with WD40 made removing the pin easier. Not that I need them, but it would be nice to include instructions for those who have never broken endless chains.
