Review on Master Lock Padlock Aluminum 141DLF by Ryan Reiter

Good for containment

I bought this for a garage side door padlock to be used in addition to the front lock handle. The lock is lightweight and easy to use, but it's not a secure lock at all. For this purpose I think it's fine. Given that the door can be easily kicked or picked with a crowbar, these locks are only good for deterring normally honest people from becoming thieves. If someone aims at your garage or other locked object, the world's best padlock won't stop your door from being kicked out. Wood is also a weak point in this lock. UPDATE: After about 2 months of using this lock outdoors in winter weather (10-30 degrees Fahrenheit) it's clear this lock doesn't like it. I believe the problem is in cold weather and not just on the road. The lock is often difficult to open even though it is coated with silicone spray inside and out. I have no issue with the key part of the lock, but the shackle is inherent in both the locking mechanism and its ability to rotate once opened. I haven't experienced this with steel locks so it must be either the design of this lock or the fact that the body is aluminum.
