It took about a year (almost) for it to fail. Replacing one with a 2002 Cadillac Eldorado takes almost 5 hours, so that's the price plus a lot of work. For example, for a Ford 4.6 it's an easy 10 minute job so it's not the end of the world for a replacement, but for a Cadillac it's an expensive job for a fairly cheap part. Because the light in the control electronics always stayed on (battery indicator), but it worked perfectly until a few days ago, started charging and then went out completely. At least nothing is fried in the car, as far as I know.
