Confusing setup issues

A few setup issues I had to resolve without much help from tech support: 1) This adapter needs to be configured to use the same baud rate etc as the serial device it will be connected to it. My barcode scanner says it connects at 57,600 baud, but the serial digital dial is set to 9600 baud. By default, the adapter is set to 19200. In this case it should have been set to 9600 as that is the setting on the serial device. 2) In setup mode you cannot connect the data cable because if you do this and make changes to the setup using the configuration software, your changes will not be saved. I don't know WHY, but this is what I had to do for it to save my changes - unplug the serial data cable. 3) One technician said to set it up using the setup software and another said to use the device's properties. on Windows. The setup software was the only way that worked for me. 4) The configuration software must connect to the adapter via Bluetooth. Serial cable connection does not work. The configuration software asks which COM port you are using, but there are no entries in the drop-down list, so you have to type in e.g. "COM5" manually. Just below the COM port it asks for a baud rate, but I never understood the meaning of that, especially since my goal was to change the baud rate.
