Works with Garmin MapSource

The IOGEAR GUC232A can come in handy when you need a USB to RS-232 adapter with a short cable. I use it to work with older Garmin GPS navigators. They require a special serial cable (or at least a connector), so the USB to RS-232 adapter cable needs to be long enough to provide some strain relief (by preventing the entire three-port adapter and cable be connected to each other). . to your computer's USB port). Garmin MapSource 6.1 works fine with the GUC232A on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (at least…

If you are having communication problems with your serial application, this could be the solution for you. There are two things to watch out for. First, the cable enters the end of the DB9 converter. The wires there can be brittle, and…

  • Status LED for data monitoring

Confusing setup issues

A few setup issues I had to resolve without much help from tech support: 1) This adapter needs to be configured to use the same baud rate etc as the serial device it will be connected to it. My barcode scanner says it connects at 57,600 baud, but the serial digital dial is set to 9600 baud. By default, the adapter is set to 19200. In this case it should have been set to 9600 as that is the setting on the serial device. 2) In setup mode you cannot connect the data cable because if you do this…

Pros
  • 3 year limited warranty
Cons
  • Very expensive
