Overheating and charging port not working

This USB adapter can become a universal hub. However, the charging port does not work. The USB-C port charges devices, but not the charging port itself. Also, the adapter heats up very quickly when plugged into a computer. It then seems to heat up more when I connect my smartphone to the adapter. It's light and compact, but I'm afraid of overheating.
