When I decided to try these filters (I bought 2) it was because I was at the end of my rope with my 7G goldfish tank. Goldfish are very messy fish and having a small tank with 4 fancy goldfish (albeit small ones) is no picnic. I'm planning on getting a bigger tank, but not right now. Either way, goldfish are eating and pooping almost immediately (well, anyway!) and before you know it, you'll be having muddy and muddy water in a couple of days. I bought a Fluval U2 internal filter for my aquarium. This filter is rated for 12-30 US gallons and while powerful, it wasn't enough to keep the water clean for goldfish. I researched and went to 4 different pet stores in the area. I saw that Petco and Petsmart had state-of-the-art filtration systems, but the smaller neighborhood pet stores didn't. Most of them had sponge filters. I don't need a sponge filter. So I researched further and came across them. The assembly wasn't difficult. The only downside is that the plastic it's made of is very brittle. Push in the wrong direction and you can break it very easily. I broke the first filter I mounted when installing the stand. The tear was minimal and everything stayed together so I figured out what the heck. I fell asleep with activated charcoal and thread following the instructions. I soaked it in the tub for a second to get everything nice and wet and then put the lid on INSIDE the tub to stop bubbles from forming. Holding it in place in the corner of the tank was no problem. Fast forward 5 days. My goldfish tank has never been so clean. Water is literally liquid glass. The thread inside the filter gets tangled up with all the dirt this little filter sucks out of the water the little bubbler pushes through and I'm thrilled. The fish are happy too. I have attached photos. I also installed a second filter in my small 3G fish/shrimp tank. I closed the inlet slots (from 3 sides) with a tool and now this tank is also suitable for this wonderful filter. Overall I give it 5 stars and would definitely buy and/or recommend it to anyone! These filters are awesome!
