Great set for calligraphy. The dip pen has a gold-plated tip that is ideal for acidic inks such as iron gall ink and black walnut ink (gold coating prevents the pen from tarnishing). The nib is pointed (NOT a wide-edged italic nib) and quite stiff (perhaps not designed to flex. This is a gold-plated version of the #513 Bowl-Pointed Globe EF nib). The feather is smooth and not spiky like a crow feather. The pen can also be easily removed from this holder. The pen holder is lightweight and convenient for writing. I like the marble pattern - many pen holders are rubbish in comparison. Gold and silver acrylic inks pair beautifully with this fountain pen and look great on black paper. My only criticism is that the ink bottles are so small. I wish Speedball would make these gold plated nibs more affordable. They are very sweet. Non-calligraphers will also find this fountain pen useful for handwriting special letters.
