Replace the old lights that were on my trailer, the new light is much better and lasts a long time, they are sealed and waterproof. They have their own ground wire, I ran the ground wire all the way to my plug to remove the ground from the trailer body. Let me be clear that I connected the ground of each light to the ground wire on the plug. I'm a retired electrician so I solder all the connections and run all the wires in conduit, I don't think I will. Ever had trouble with a well designed theses light! Update 03/29/2019 I used my caravan day and night for about 3 weeks at a time. I towed it empty and as the trailer bounced a lot more the ride was 100 miles and 100 miles back loaded. I saw that the driver behind me seems to be saving extra space since the rear of my trailer has less rearward angling at night. I think it's because the LED lights are very sharp and bright and people seem to be more observant, it made changing lanes easier for me. We are very happy with these trailer lights. I'm thinking of installing one in the middle of my ramp as a third brake light. When I saw the set on a trailer and the person had one as a 3rd brake light and in traffic during the day I was very impressed with how well this 3rd light stood out in traffic so I think it would be a great way to help Please note Tell the driver my trailer is an open trailer that I can move 4800 pounds on. We built it to move a large witch ditch underground. When loaded you can see it, but it has been unlocked. I looked at the brake lights and had to dodge into a ditch to avoid being hit because the driver couldn't see me. Just thought I'd add for those with the same problem.
