Review on Wagner ThermoQuiet MX1278 Semi-Metallic Brake Pads Set by Julio Rattanajatuphorn

Oh I love these pads the best

Thought I'd try them on my '07 Expedition. After reading many disc brake pad reviews online, Wagner ThermoQuiet brake pads seem to be a favorite of many. So I figured I'd give it a try since I was only spinning the rotors anyway. They were a little easy to put on, but I had to bend the spring clips a bit to fit the pistons. After that, it remains only to lubricate the guides and tighten them with screws. BTW if you push the pistons back always open the fluid outlet as if you were just pushing the fluid back into the MC, you could be pushing dirt in the lines back to the ABS control valve and blocking the valves. If you do, the entire ABS unit will have to be replaced at a great cost. Install new front and rear pads and then test them. They were a little flimsy at first but took a week of driving to install. Now they work perfectly, no noise, very smooth, light foot pedal stops safely. The more you drive the car, the better they work. They're designed for 'regular' driving, not a race car at a track, so they're great for my kind of 'regular' driving to and from the supermarket. They cost more than cheap pads but they are really worth it and when it comes to safety they are worth a few bucks more to me. I would also spin the rotors for smooth running of the new pads. I would buy them again and would love to fit the kit to my other car. UPDATE: 7/11/13 They were working fine until today there was a loud grinding noise in the right front wheel. I removed the caliper and found that the backing pad on the inner pad had come loose from the rivets and fallen onto the rotor. I used a grinder to grind down the rivets and remove the base plate. I used this pink goo on the back of the pad and reassembled the caliper. Now it works perfectly and without noise. So I don't know why it happened as the outer pad looked ok. The only problem was with the inner lining. The pink goo seems to work best on brake pads and I've used it for many years without any problems. Looks like I'll use it again. When the left front brake does this, I get more pink goo.

Pros
  • EXCELLENT BRAKING POWER -- Advanced friction compounds dissipate heat for superior braking performance
Cons
  • Big and bulky
