Review on πŸ”˜ Prominence Home 50864 Whitley Hugger Ceiling Fan, 42-Inch, Bronze by Tara Cooper

Nice fan, but there is a slight hum from the motor.

Are you looking for a quiet fan for a night's sleep? Well, it's not, unfortunately, but close. I myself have a kind of illness where I can't stand even the slightest sound of the engine and try to sleep on those stiflingly hot nights. Sure, most fans are loud, but the one I replaced this one with was a little quieter. It's a nice fan, easy to install, directions are clear and it moves air well, despite being so small it has a strong high flow setting. Make sure everything is snug against the ceiling, there is no play, the two brackets are snug against each other, and the wings are snug against the motor to avoid wobbling. The kit includes a balancing kit. When installing, I routed the wires before connecting the two brackets (against the instructions) to allow the motor to dangle gently when hooked to the top bracket. It was too difficult to connect any other way. The most time consuming part is installing the propellers on the blades and bolting each blade to the motor. I used a small Philips for most of the screws and then tightened the flat head. If you have a magnetic screwdriver, it will help avoid dropping the small screws, which of course are always hard to find. There is an extra washer and screw. If you are looking for an economical fan that is cute, compact and only 14 inches high from the ceiling, then this one is perfect. If you need absolute silence from a fan, this fan might not be the right choice. Addendum: I put this fan in another room that has more ambient noise and is actually pretty quiet. I think for those who are not very sensitive to noise when falling asleep, this fan will work very well.
