. I raise abused German Shepherds and my last two had no fur around their necks. I love them because they pinch less, although this assumes you know how to use the choke chain (it should always be able to disengage if the dog shakes his head). The narrower chain weighs less than most (I've walked a dog who could pose as a draft horse with a 26" chain and it didn't snap) and the flatter links slide and detach more easily. If you want your dog to be comfortable 99% of the time but still be in control when a lady with a loose Chihuahua approaches, I think this type of chain is the best. (Also yell at the lady for making you use it.)
