Let me first say that I understand they are made in China and wasn't expecting much in terms of materials/finish quality. I bought them because of the glass and Zeiss design. However, I didn't expect the case's composite construction to be so flimsy that the strap eyelet would come loose so easily with normal use. Yes, in your hands it looks like expensive Zeiss binoculars. The weight is due to the good Schott ED glass. The same glass ensures a bright and clear view. However, Zeiss effectively took a set of kid's toy binoculars found at a dollar store (like a $1 set of 3 binoculars for a $1 party) and installed some of them. nice glass inside. and then cut back on the production of the original toy binoculars to make even more profit. As a last resort when I had to use our binoculars I used super glue to fix and reinforce the grommet which fell apart in 3 places (it falls apart once it starts to break). Luckily, it sticks well with standard liquid superglue. Back home, I contacted Zeiss customer service and explained the problem in detail. I wanted to know how to avoid breaking the other tab. I wanted to know if it was a defect or a (deliberately cheap) construction. I wanted them to know that doing business abroad could damage their reputation. I got a reply from a representative who just told me to send it in for repair. I'm hesitant to do this because I'm sure the next device will have the same problem. The construction is so cheap. You get 0 stars for build quality, 5 stars for glass/design. and rounded down to two stars due to Zeiss customer service's lack of interest in their defective product. If you do decide to buy them I recommend either not using the straps or using super glue to reinforce the grommets. Or maybe consider modifying the lugs to replace them with a more powerful alternative from a nice toy binocular. I've attached some photos to show you the gap and how to attach the grommets correctly with superglue. You can use a felt-tip pen to darken the PVA glue. Edit: September 21, 2017 Having used them for some time I have to say we are very happy with them. The superglue on the tabs held up. The bright, clear view, comfort and ease of focusing fairly quickly were fantastic. I think overall we are happy with the price and I gave it +1 star. Even now I can't say I would recommend them to anyone but I would definitely buy them if I came across a used (discounted) pair of binoculars in good condition!
