Troubleshooting a 68-72 Nova with New Leaf Springs

This damper solved a vexing problem on a 1968-1972 Chevy Nova - here are the details Before purchasing the damper the rear suspension was replaced with a mono spring changed -blade to a multi-blade auto that required longer strokes. If you find yourself in this situation, measure the length of the eyelet -> fixing screw with the wheels mounted and on level ground. I got about 20 inches, which was almost the maximum travel of any shock that everyone listed for my car. However, these dampers go up to 24 inches. They allow more up and down movement, which was my problem. I ran bumps where the suspension compressed, on rebound it stopped (over) at 20 inches, resulting in lots of hits and poor handling. -> The length of the mounting bolt is about 20 inches, these shock absorbers work very well. The price can't be beat either. The ride seems good. The lower mounting eyelet didn't come with the new eyelet (the metal eyelet that the bolt on the lower shock mount goes through) so I had to reuse the 44 year old. If you have this lower shock mount, you will either need to buy a new clamp or pry out the clamps that go into the old shocks. Lots of PBlasters, two sockets and a magazine press, that's the only way it happened. I would have ordered new ones if I knew I would run into this problem. The upper mount bushing and mounting tabs on a shock were not perfectly aligned. Put them in a vise to straighten them and they worked fine. Hope this helps someone, I tried 3 sets of shocks before I found one that worked and - big surprise - Revane had it cheap and got it to me quickly.
