Review on Legion Stonehenge Watercolor Inches L21 SQH140WH912 by Angela Rodriguez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Stonehenge Aqua Hot Press lends itself very well to detailed illustrations!

UPDATE: I've been using Stonehenge Aqua hot press paper for about a year now and have gotten very used to using it in my illustrative work. I slightly adjusted my technique to account for the very smooth, slightly delicate surface and the fast drying time of the paper. The effort was definitely worth it and I am very satisfied with the performance of this hot printing paper. I've decided to update my review here and also add some photos of my illustrations drawn on it to show what I've been able to achieve with my illustration work as it has become a popular hot stamp paper used in my work. .I have also upgraded my rating for this paper from four to five stars as I have resolved the masking tape issue mentioned in my original review. I have found two brands of art tape that I can remove without damaging the paper - ProArt white art tape and Art Alternatives work well if you remove the tape slowly and carefully. I was also able to use masking liquid on this paper without any problems. You need to make sure it's completely dry first and don't leave it on the paper for too long, but that's true no matter what paper you use. I try to stay within a 2-24 hour time window and have had no problems with this paper. Note. I used covering liquid to sprinkle on the pasta illustration I shared and the paper was fine after removing it as you can see. Note: I am also pleased to see that the name of this item has been corrected to reflect that it is Stonehenge Aqua paper and not Yupo paper. ORIGINAL REVIEW: First, this is NOT Yupo paper. This is the misnamed Stonehenge Aqua Hot Press paper. I was hesitant to order because the name of this item was changed to Yupo, but I took a chance and ordered it hoping to get Stonehenge and that's what I got. However, I have now tried several different brands of watercolor paper in both cold and hot press finishes. Lately I've been buying Fabriano Artistico, but since the production process changed a few years ago, the quality of the paper isn't the same anymore. I needed to find good hot press paper for detail work. So far this paper has met my needs quite well. It's light and smooth. The ink on it doesn't spread as much as on Fabriano Artistico. And it holds up well to cleaning. Pros: * It has a smooth surface suitable for ink, watercolor, gouache and airbrush, but also enough teeth for colored pencils. It's versatile.* Colors retain their vibrancy quite well even when working with multiple layers. The change in value as the watercolor and ink dry is negligible.* Edges remain nice and sharp when working in detail. It really holds the details very well. A big plus here.* The paper stands up to moderate brushing without pilling or looking overworked.* Other: Stonehenge watercolor paper is starch sized, making it suitable for vegan artists. that the surface is delicate when used with masking tape. And I mean tender! Even my low tack drawing dots, which are specifically designed for use on paper, resulted in some of the surface peeling off when removed. It's important to use a hair dryer to heat the tape and soften the adhesive before attempting to remove it. I don't know how well this paper holds up to the masking fluid, but I have some concerns. I will definitely test it before using it in real work. You should pay attention to this when buying this paper. Other:* This paper dries relatively quickly. So far it has definitely been faster for me than Fabriano Artistico. I've found that when I paint in my studio, I have to dampen the paper twice before using the wet-on-wet technique in order for the paint to apply properly. better with ink and details with watercolour. I will continue to use it for illustration, leaving Fabriano to work more freely where less detail or ink is needed.
