I installed this on the back of a 2004 Silverado truck with a tonneau cover. I connected it to the reverse lights. When I lock or unlock the truck with the remote control, the light comes on for about a minute. That's enough time to look at bed, and if I need more time, I just press the button on the remote control again. It illuminates the bed very well when the bedspread is closed. With this setup, I didn't have to connect a switch, and I don't have to worry about accidentally leaving the light on. The lights are installed under the bed rail and are mostly protected from objects moving across the bed.
