So far they are holding up well and protecting our above ground well from freezing. We have a poorly insulated surface well pump with exposed piping. Last year there was frost and we were without water for some time. This year we installed two lightbulb sockets in series, connected them to a thermostatic socket and then connected their wires to the fountain pump's 240V constant current terminals. This reduces the voltage to the required 120 volts at each "light bulb". It looks like they'll last significantly longer than regular incandescent bulbs and still be cool enough not to worry about the leads overheating.
