Review on 5-Piece Angular Artist Brush Set By Aqualon Royal & Langnickel Featuring Wisp Brushes by Brooke Watts

A Great Specialty Brush

I was so excited to receive these Wisp brushes that as soon as they arrived, I tested them on my painting. The fact that they are angular really helps when creating curves, etc. I've been painting a lot of animals lately and the wisp brush helps save time rather than creating single stroke lines, although in order to create realistic looking fur, it's sometimes necessary to create single stroke feathering at various parts of the animal's body. The 1/8" brush is perfect for painting hair/fur on the animal's face, and I've been searching for this size a long time. I was concerned about the fact that these brushes are designated for acrylic and water color painting, and as an oil painter I was afraid they would be too soft. It is so difficult finding specialty brushes for use with oils, so I was willing to try these as an alternative, and they worked fine! You just have to be sure to dip only the brush tips into the paint so you don't get too much paint that will clog between the separations making it useless for creating separate strokes. The bristles hold the paint well. I would think this would be the same application method for acrylics as well, but having never used that medium I'm just guessing. revain no longer has these angular brushes in stock. I must have purchased the last set; however, the straight or filbert style works the same way.
