Like Like Love - Car Video

***REDACTED*** I have installed this device for 3 months and so far I DO NOT LOVE it. I've definitely changed my mind on this matter. It has a ton of features and is a huge upgrade from my 12 year old stereo, but everything does NOT work great and is NOT very easy to use. However I have to say it fits my 2006 Volkswagen GTI perfectly, it almost looks like it was designed by VW but it definitely wasn't. It's handy to have a NAV system and the touchscreen works great. My Android phone connected to the device via Bluetooth without any problems and I was able to make calls immediately. I still find problems I had no idea about. One of the things I would complain about is the installation guide that came with it, it sucks. Of course this thing is made in China, which I knew before it started, so it's no surprise that the instructions are limited, but to be honest there weren't any instructions on how to wire anything. A large fold out page listing all the cables and connectors could include some steps on what to connect and how. Instead, it basically just shows everything that's in the box and labels it. I already installed a car radio, but about ten years ago and not that complicated. I had to find a YouTube video showing the installation of a similar device from another manufacturer and I was able to figure it out. I think thank god for YouTube. One thing I would like to point out that would be helpful in the instructions is the fact that I need a different antenna connector than what comes with the kit. I've since bought it but due to unforeseen circumstances I haven't had a chance to install it yet so the radio currently tunes almost nothing just the strongest FM stations and of course AM isn't a big deal but I prefer not to listen to AM so. The two big pains in my ass that are starting to annoy me are these: The clock has a mind of its own. No matter how many times I set it, it always goes back to the time it wants it to show, and that's 1 hour behind the actual time. I go to Settings > Time & Date and change it or click on GPS time and as soon as I turn the car off again it resets. VERY BAD. ***Update*** I received instructions from the seller on how to do this and it finally worked (I think) but who knows when they might decide to go back to the time they want to display? Another thing is the status screen. While it's very nice and pretty cool that it gets all the info from OBD etc, it's also a bit annoying because sometimes it has its own opinion too and doesn't go away if one of the things it's checking is a warning message indicates. . For example windshield washer fluid. Recently it was low and great, it shows it in my instrument cluster AND the status page of this unit but then it doesn't go away and I have to manually select another screen e.g. Radio, SD card etc. Also, I do NOT have a backup camera installed and I don't think I will be doing so in the near or distant future so it would be great if this didn't pop up every time I parked the car. backward. ***Update*** Again I had to get directions from the seller but was able to turn off the backup camera feature so it doesn't pop up all the time. Many other oddities of this device are minor, for example, if you play music from an SD card or CD, the repeat function is automatically activated. You can't turn it off, just toggle between repeating ALL or 1. There might be something in the deep settings but I haven't checked yet. Which brings me to my next point: there are settings that you can only access from the home screen. , and there are also DEEP settings that require a special code and must be obtained from the seller. This can be accessed from the settings menu, I forgot where, but when you get to this code-protected settings screen you have no idea about these settings and it's a hassle to get a salesperson to tell you about them. Now I know it's best not to mess around with settings like this, but there are definitely some nice settings in this section that you can tweak to improve your experience and some of the pesky features this thing has like that back to turn off. Raise the camera screen every time you engage reverse gear if you don't have it installed. I asked if they could send me something explaining everything and they said they couldn't, I just have to ask them what I want to know about. If you haven't already figured it out from my review, the instruction manual that came with this thing sucks too. I mean, it shows you basic information in broken English, but if you want to delve into the big settings of this device, it fails miserably. The seller of course says to email them anytime to ask for help, which was nice, but who wants to email these guys all the time and wait like 12 hours for freaking replies given the DST? All this information needs to be printed out somewhere - I seriously doubt there is a single guy who has all this information in his head that he just spits out every time a customer asks a question. So why not publish with the device or on the web for easy access by the consumer? Of course, the simple answer is money. They don't charge a lot of money for it and don't want to attach a lot of documentation, or at least as little as possible. That seems to be the case with all electronic devices these days, but I mean, well! I basically told the seller my dissatisfaction with his device and his support for this device and he won't help me anymore. well done and the touchscreen seems to work pretty well but it has too many quirks for my liking and too many things that don't make sense and seem impossible to understand. Next time I'd shell out another $100 or so to get a prettier and better quality unit than this thing. Save yourself time and hassle and get something else.
