Review on Dial Manufacturing 5713 4 Ounce Cooler by Franklin Richardson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great oil, not a big nose.

I bought this oil hoping to salvage a failed squirrel cage motor. (full disclosure, which I try very hard to comply with, accelerated the crash). This is our first winter in our new home and the heat has barely blown. I checked the air duct flaps, the filter material and then came to the engine. . . It turned out to be an original, about 23 years old, with a label stating a lifespan of 20,000 hours (according to statistics, the average winter here is about 100 hours). The engine was mounted with the oil ports facing the ground, making it impossible to remove with permanent wiring to lubricate it. After removing the permanent wiring (and replacing it with a wire nut), I was able to rotate the motor in its mounts with the oil ports facing up and lubricate the motor. The rear port is easy to lubricate, but the front port needs to be lubricated through the squirrel cage. The zoom nose was very helpful in accessing the front port, but I wish it would hold its shape better when flexed for even easier lubrication. I was satisfied with the result of the lubrication, I turned the system back on and full power and the house quickly warmed up. Unfortunately, running such a durable and neglected motor at full speed only destroyed what was left of the bearing after a few hours and I ended up having to replace the motor. But I used it again to make sure the new motor was well lubricated before fitting and not blame the product for a malfunction.
