Review on Channellock 447 Curved Diagonal Cutting by Peter Sullivan

The processing is no longer as it used to be

I used to have two of these items. loved her. My first pair was raised by a worker about 10 years ago and I immediately replaced them with an identical pair. Surprisingly, I use these Channelloch 447 cutters for so many different daily chores here on my Virginia farm that I carry them in my shoulder bag to every chore. Mine are still going strong 10 years later. I also have a pair of more typical NON-CURVED Channellock side cutters. Their quality is excellent but this pair is in my power tool box and rarely used. I just don't find them practical for my daily work. My daughter goes to college and rents an apartment, and I put together a simple tool box for her as a housewarming gift. Set 447 was the first item I ordered for her tool collection. I was surprised that Channellock still makes them in the US and that the price seemed very reasonable given the tool's great utility. However, when they arrived I was a bit disappointed to find that the handling wasn't as good as my ten year old set. The new ones are otherwise identical to my own trusty tongs and they seem to be working great. But they do have a number of minor manufacturing flaws and (literally) roughness. That annoyed me a little. I will not trade them for any other set as I assume this is the new quality standard that Channellock is operating under. (It has occurred to me that the pair I received may be a second one from the factory, although I have no practical way of knowing this.) I expect they will work just as well and last as long as my original one Set. You're just not the beauty I expected. So I think I'll give my old, impeccably crafted and finished set to my girlfriend and see how the new set performs in the future. I want her to appreciate the beauty and utility of a near-perfect instrument. The newer iteration is still quite a good deal. However, I think if I needed an extra pair (another housewarming gift?) I'd probably buy the US-made Klein version.
