Cut through grout - not so good on stone

I ordered these because I thought they were an improvement over the carbide bits I use and take forever to drill through concrete (although the drill gets wet all the time area with water to cool the drill). To be honest I haven't noticed much improvement. I had to put our house license plate on our garage. There's a quirky stone siding in the area and that's where I wanted to put the license plate. After drilling for a while I had the start of a hole - no better (and possibly worse) than my old carbide drill bits. So I stopped drilling the stone and made a hole in the mortar around the stone - no problem at all! This hardly surprises me as the grout should be a little softer than most bricks. Maybe I wouldn't have had so many problems if the cladding had been brick instead of stone.
