These patches did not adhere very well to our painted drywall. Follow the instructions and apply the patch spackle before sticking it to the wall. When we putty it seemed like it wouldn't stick, but then it dried pretty well. We were covering electrical boxes, so we had to hammer in the metal edges to make sure they lined up. All in all it was pretty easy to do. Apply a thin coat, then sand, then another coat until completely covered. There is no putty in the kit, just patches and a plastic spatula.
