Plugs directly into computer USB-C port, unit works fine. Everything goes wrong when you connect it via an extension cord, and that's not the fault of this docking station. I think the USB-C connector system doesn't adapt well to universal standards. There are special cables for all applications, but they are not clearly marked. Along with this device I ordered a Super Speed extension cable and a regular Super Speed cable with female to female adapters. Both are six feet long. Both have data problems: the data is corrupted or the external USB 3.0 device becomes unreadable and/or unreliable. I don't know if two-meter cables require a powered USB-C hub. Available information on USB-C products and categories is sparse at best. I bought the right cables from everything I know about the USB-C standards and still failed. This is very annoying, but not necessarily the fault of this dock/hub. Purchasing the parts above was a USB-C performance study. So far the study has failed.
