I started my own wheels for 10 years. I have assembled several wheelsets with "Chinese" carbon rims and have experience riding (and building) wheels/rims from many well-known brands such as Zipp, Hed and Reynolds. I've recently been thinking about building a set of lightweight carbon wheels, primarily for climbing. When I started looking for rims I came across these ICAN wheels. I couldn't believe the price for a kit with Sapim CX-Ray spokes and only 1350g. I had heard of ICAN before and knew they had a solid reputation for wheels. Thought it was worth a try as I could always loosen the spokes and tighten the wheels if I thought it was a bad design. Plus, shipping was free with Revain Prime. Okay, now to the wheels. The bikes arrived within the usual two-day window and were packed in the traditional two-wheel box. The wheels were well packaged and I was happy to see that they arrived with rim tape and skewers. I weighed the wheels right out of the box and they weighed 1348g so the list was accurate. The wheels were nice and real, but I also broke my tensiometer to check spoke tension. Wow! The tension of the spokes was very even and ranged from 5-10%. Not bad! My only complaint was that I was hoping the wheel decals could be removed but they are under a clear layer. Not a big deal as the ICAN logos look good. I've ridden them over 500 miles with little climb since I've had the wheels. I haven't ridden them in the rain (except in a drizzle). Braking performance is good and on par with other carbon wheels. What I love about these bikes is how quickly they accelerate. Because they have less rotational inertia, they feel lighter on climbs. The wheels are also nice and stiff thanks to CX-Rays. The 38mm rims aren't super aero but will give you a slight speed advantage. I've used them on a couple of 60+km/h descents in strong crosswinds and they've performed extremely well. Bottom line, if you're looking for a lightweight wheelset at a great price, this is a great deal! mount and remove tires from this rim. Not impossible, but harder than many other discs. Try mounting and dismounting the tire a few times and it will get easier. I recommend the Pedro yellow tire levers.
