Review on Superior Sasaki Takumi Japanese AUS-10 8-Inch Chef Knife: Premium Stainless Steel Blade with Locking Sheath, Enhanced Performance in Black by Eduardo Frederick

Unfortunately it looks too functional

At first glance this night is great. It comes in a unique locking sheath that allows you not to use a slot in the knife block, has a full shank and polished touch, and the blade itself is polished to a mirror finish. Unfortunately, I've found that when it comes time to actually use it, the manufacturer goes beyond superior quality and ease of use. The first clue is that it's a Chinese knife, which means it's Japanese. They don't say so, but all the packaging suggests this is a high quality Japanese knife. For me, that's always a signal: Don't let the quality or lack of it in your product do - don't try to use something that isn't. Can you use the balance is wrong. That in itself is a problem, but the very nice looking grip is too slippery. doesn't hold up so well. Cutting is so-so; not great, not terrible. Unfortunately it just lacks the joy of using a well balanced, beautifully crafted knife that looks like it can deliver. I think there are better products in this price range. At least as far as the drawn version of this knife is concerned.

Pros
  • There is something unreliable about it
