One side of this scale shows needle sizes in the US and the other side shows needle sizes in millimeters. It really helps if you have circular needles, which usually don't have a size listed on them (and you can't find the plastic sleeve and paper insert that came with them), as you can quickly check what size the needle is. I would definitely recommend this to new knitters as a permanent addition to their knitting supplies.
