Review on πŸ’Ύ Seagate Exos 7E8 4TB 512n SATA 128MB Cache 3.5-Inch Enterprise HDD (ST4000NM0035) by John Pound

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great drives, but expect Seagate warranty issues.

As most of you reading this review may be concerned I wasn't sure if these drives come with an official Seagate 5 year warranty or not as I've read mixed reviews about it seen and it all seems true. - in each specific case. So let me add my story to confuse you further(?). First, unlike other recent reviews, I received the correct Exos 7E8 4TB drives (not Terascale) that come in a plastic box (looks like it came from the factory). in a box. There is a small card in the box with a 5 year warranty from MD Tech (the third party I bought it from) but I decided to check the Seagate warranty anyway. I didn't have high hopes but I found that they are guaranteed until March 19th 2025 (about 3 years and 8 months later) as you can see in the picture which is better than nothing. But there is a red line that says "regional warranty restrictions apply". So I spoke to Seagate and the rep told me they couldn't honor the 5 year warranty because MD Tech wasn't one of the authorized resellers. However, he told me that I can ignore these regional restrictions. So I get an official 3 year and 8 month warranty from Seagate and a full 5 year warranty from MD Tech (assuming MD Tech is a reliable company) which makes me happier. Considering that in my experience the failure rate of hard drives isn't very high yet, I think I'm happy with what I have now. In any case, I made a strong statement to the agent (although I'm not sure it will ever reach the proper authorities). that Seagate must provide a full warranty on drives sold new by Revain, regardless of the actual seller. If they get a lot of requests like this, I think they can do something. Seriously, I think Revain should also talk to Seagate about this if they decide to allow third parties to use their system. This leads to a lot of confusion and frustration among customers. Overall I'm giving 5 stars as the hard drives have worked great so far and I've been lucky with the warranty.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
